Communications Coordinator (Temporary, Full-time, Non-exempt position)

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, Greater Los Angeles Area Chapter (CAIR-LA) seeks a temporary, full-time Communications Coordinator to work with other staff at the Anaheim office location.  CAIR-LA is a non-profit grassroots civil rights and advocacy organization aimed at enhancing understanding of Islam, encouraging dialogue, protecting civil liberties, empowering American-Muslims, and building coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding. 

Temporary Dates: September 2017 – December 31, 2017

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all social media content and campaigns across all channels including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube
  • Build and execute social media strategy through research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification
  • Preparing news releases and organizing news conferences
  • Writing opinion pieces and letters to the editor
  • Conducting as well as coordinating media interviews; preparing statements and talking points 
  • Proactively work with media to generate comprehensive coverage of Islam and American Muslims
  • Maintaining website and social media presence; sending out email newsletter and updates to community members regularly
  • Assisting D.C. office with media work around national issues and campaigns 
  • Provide digital and print marketing support for CAIR programs and events 


  • Bachelor Degree in Communications/Public Relations/Journalism or related field
  • 1-2 years of experience leading social media campaigns
  • Excellent oral communication and writing skills
  • Ability to take initiative, manage multiple tasks and work independently
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to Islam and the American Muslim community
