The San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA), Meet a Muslim, People Acting in Community Together (PACT), and Multifaith Voices for Peace & Justice today convened a Unity Rally hosted by 131 diverse organizations.

Together they brought 1,000 attendees to rally in support of the Muslim community, showcasing a pluralistic alternative to the white supremacist and Islamophobic “March Against Sharia” in Santa Clara.

Anti-Muslim Law Protestors Meet Opposition in San Jose

“We were inspired to see hundreds of people, including clergy from all faith backgrounds and elected, join this afternoon’s Unity Rally,” said CAIR-SFBA Executive Director Zahra Billoo. “That our event outnumbered the anti-Muslim protestors more than twenty-to-one sends a strong message about the Silicon Valley and this region’s rejection of hate.”

“People are hungry to come together and speak a word of love and unity. We did that today and it was beautiful,” said Multifaith Voices for Peace & Justice Convener Rev. Diana Gibson. “We stand with our Muslim friends and neighbors. The fibers of our community are strong.”
