2012 Voter Guide
CAIR-CA Offers Comprehensive Guide to Mobilize Muslim Voters
(Oct 18, 2012 - San Francisco, CA)
The California Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA), announced today the release of its “2012 California Voter Guide” designed to encourage the state’s Muslim voters to participate in next month’s state and federal elections.
The detailed guide offers a congressional and state legislative scorecard, as well as a proposition guide, in order to educate voters in California on the broad range of issues that are being put to vote in less than three weeks.
The Congressional scorecard provides ratings on congressional members according to their voting record on civil rights and social justice issues, while the state legislative scorecard rates California Assembly Members and State Senators using the same standard. The proposition guide, however, puts forth recommendations for California voters on how to vote on the various propositions on the November ballot, including propositions on the death penalty and human trafficking.
Community members are also encouraged to pick up a copy of the voter guide distributed after Friday prayers and Eid al-Adha prayers by their local CAIR-CA office.
CAIR-CA’s other voter empowerment efforts this year have included the distribution of “Get Out the Vote” material, voter registration drives at local mosques, and voter education and candidates’ forums. These programs are designed to mobilize the Muslim community to cast their ballots on Tuesday, November 6th.
“By releasing the 2012 voter guide, our goal is to empower California’s Muslim voters to make informed decisions about legislation and policies that maintain human dignity, civil liberties and reflect the diversity of our state and nation,” said CAIR-Greater Los Angeles Area Government Relations Coordinator Adel Syed.
CAIR-CA is a chapter of CAIR, America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
