Celebrate CAIR-SFBA’s 15 Years of Service to the Community
On behalf of the Council on American-Islamic Relations San Francisco Bay Area office (CAIR-SFBA), it is our pleasure to invite you to attend our 15th Annual Fundraising Banquet. The program will be held Sunday, November 15th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at the Fremont Marriott. This year’s theme is “A New Era of Hope: Our Role, Our Future.” Banquet speakers include Professor David Cole, Dr. Jack Shaheen and Dr. Mohammed Rajabally.
Dr. Jack Shaheen is Professor Emeritus of Mass Communication at Southern Illinois University. He was also a consultant on Middle East affairs for CBS News.He studies portrayals of Arabs and Islam in American media. Dr. Shaheen mainly addresses stereotypical images of racial and ethnic groups. His presentations contend that stereotypes do not exist in a vacuum, that hurtful caricatures of Asians, blacks, Latinos and others, impact innocents. He explains why he considers such portraits persist, and suggests ways of countering what he sees as misperceptions.
David D. Cole is an American law professor at the Georgetown University Law Center. He has published in various legal fields including civil rights, criminal justice, constitutional law and law and literature. He has litigated the First Amendment and other constitutional issues and contributes regularly to the media on topical legal issues.He is now a member of the Georgetown University Law Faculty. His main areas of expertise are constitutional law, in particular First Amendment law, criminal procedure and law relating to United States federal courts. He has lectured and contributed academic articles on related topics including U.S. drugs policy, the U.S. War on Terror, capital punishment, and Judicial Review.
Dr. Mohammad Rajabally, long time community activist and ISNA member has been designated by ISNA as the project leader for NISA. Dr. Rajabally, aside from being active with ISNA and Shura Council, has industry specific experience as a Board Member of the Tri-Cities Homeless Coalition.In addition, he also has extensive experience working with various shelters in his capacity as Human Relations Commissioner for the City of Fremont.Dr. Rajabally is also the Vice President of the Islamic Society of East Bay in Fremont, the largest Masjid in the Tri-City Area.He and his wife Dr. Fareeda have a son and own a family Dental practice in Fremont.Dr Rajabally conducts NISA’s premarital workshops and provides advocacy assistance to male clients.
