Administrative Assistant

Civil Rights Attorney

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, the San Francisco Bay Area chapter (CAIR-SFBA) is the oldest CAIR chapter in the country. Back in 1994, a group of dedicated volunteers in the Bay Area saw a need for a unique kind of organization – an organization that would work to uphold civil rights of American Muslims, foster a better understanding of the Islamic faith and its followers, and help find avenues for Muslims to integrate more fully into the broader society. More than 20 years later, we have grown tremendously by deepening our base in the Bay Area Muslim community and serving the area’s nearly 250,000 Muslims residing in the nine Bay Area counties. We, moreover, have become a household name among local Muslims and a reliable resource and partner for media, public officials, policymakers, advocacy groups, and the interfaith and progressive communities.

A Bit About Our Office Culture:

We work really hard to cultivate a family feel in this work. We take the quality of our work very seriously while prioritizing community empowerment and organizing. We put our clients and constituents first and are often required to work very quickly on tight deadlines informed by the circumstances of Islamophobic news, client needs, and limited resources. Everyone on the team is involved in every aspect of the work from advocacy strategies, to community education, and fundraising. Expect to interact with lots of American Muslims and allies, attend and give presentations, and work periodic evenings and weekends. Plan to drive throughout the Bay Area, and visit many mosques and community centers.
