Protect Free Speech: Veto AB 2664

AB 2664 has passed the California Legislature and is now headed to the Governor’s desk. The bill would create new criminal penalties affecting speech and assembly near houses of worship.

Everyone deserves to feel safe while attending religious services. Threats, harassment, violence, and obstruction should never be tolerated. But California already has laws that prohibit and punish that conduct.

AB 2664 goes further. It could subject people to criminal penalties for peaceful protest and protected political expression in public spaces, including when religious institutions host public-facing political or commercial events featuring foreign military personnel, extremist speakers, partisan political figures, or real estate companies involved in settlement activity in the occupied West Bank.

Tell the Governor: Protect houses of worship without undermining the First Amendment. VETO AB 2664.
