The Trump administration’s sweeping freeze on all immigration and visa processing for Afghan nationals is a devastating act of collective punishment. By halting visas, asylum decisions, family reunification, and even reexamining the green cards of people who have already been fully vetted, the administration is targeting an entire community for the horrific actions of one individual. This unprecedented move places tens of thousands of refugees, lawful residents, and families in immediate jeopardy.
These restrictions don’t make our country safer; they tear families apart, strand people in dangerous conditions, and deepen the climate of fear Muslim and immigrant communities are facing. Afghan refugees and families who have followed every rule and undergone extensive security screening now face indefinite uncertainty, loss of status, and prolonged separation from loved ones.
We cannot allow an entire community to be scapegoated for political gain.
Urge the Trump Administration to lift this unjust ban on immigration and visa processing for Afghan nationals.
