A city council is a group of elected officials who play a crucial role in how the city is run. The city council is responsible for making important decisions that affect the daily lives of people living within the city.
The City Council’s primary responsibilities include:
Discussing and updating city policies.
Voting on laws and managing the budget for city’s departments and programs.
Overseeing contracts and city projects
Represents their community and promotes civic engagement.
City Council decisions help create policies, laws, and set budgets that directly influence the city’s living conditions and the well-being of its residents. They also vote on important issues, like supporting a ceasefire in Gaza, to show what the people in their city, their constituents, believe and support.
Members of the City Councils are elected by voters within their districts and are limited to four-year terms, including the mayor, limited to a two-year term.
