rashida tlaib

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Rashida Tlaib made history in 2008 by winning her race for State Representative and becoming the first Muslim woman to ever serve in the Michigan Legislature.

She continued leaving her mark on history in August 2018, when she won the Democratic primary for Michigan’s 13th Congressional District. She will run unopposed in November, making her poised to become the first Muslim woman ever elected to Congress.

Dena Takruri is a Senior Presenter and Producer at AJ+, the all digital video news network from Al Jazeera Media Network based in San Francisco, CA.

Dena has reported internationally on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, tensions on the Korean Peninsula, and on Europe’s refugee crisis, where she was one of the first journalists to ever broadcast using Facebook Live.
Among the domestic stories she’s covered are the 2016 presidential race, Flint’s water crisis, AIPAC’s annual policy conference, the fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline at Standing Rock, and ICE’s crackdown on undocumented people under Trump. She has extensively covered the #BlackLivesMatter movement and issues related to Arab and Muslim communities in the U.S.
omar rEgan

Omar Regan was born and raised in Detroit, MI.  He started writing songs at the age of 9, and debuted on the professional music scene along with his brother as a member of the group S.O.A at the age of 11. In 1999, he jumped on stage as a stand-up comic in local Detroit Comedy Clubs and soon after auditioned and was awarded the leading role in a Regional Ford Focus Commercial and knew acting was his passion.

He left Detroit for Hollywood and was cast as a Photo Double for Chris Tucker in Rush Hour 2 in 2001. In 2005, he was on the main stage at The World Famous Comedy Store in Hollywood and got the attention of talents scouts.

Regan is now international known. He has appeared in films including “Internet Dating” alongside Katt Williams and “Life is Hot in Cracktown,” alongside, Evan Ross, and Kerry Washington.

As an African-American Muslim entertainer, Regan offers a unique perspective on everyday life.

DR. Altaf Husain

Altaf Husain is a native of Cleveland, Ohio; and a double alumnus of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, having earned his BSc in biomedical engineering and his MS in social work. He received his PhD in social work from Howard University in Washington, DC.

Dr. Husain’s research interests include the mental health and integration of immigrant and refugee families, and especially Muslim adolescents, in the United States. He is currently the vice president of Yaqeen Institute. His past service to the community includes serving as a vice president of ISNA, two-term national president of the MSA and an executive committee member of the Muslim Alliance in North America.
