Our hearts and prayers are with the Afghan community both in the Greater Los Angeles area and abroad. We are doing everything we can to assist Afghans arriving to our region.
We have provided a list of our initiatives, links to resources, and ways to get involved below.
Legal Assistance
CAIR-LA’s immigration lawyers have been working tirelessly to assist more than 160 Afghan individuals seeking various types of immigration assistance.
Volunteer support is needed to complete as many applications as possible for individuals seeking to leave Afghanistan as well as for others who need assistance upon arrival. Immigration experience is not required.
If you are a lawyer or a law student in the Greater Los Angeles area who can volunteer between four to eight hours in a given week, kindly complete this form to support immigration attorneys assisting members of the Afghan community. You will be contacted via email when support is needed in the coming days and weeks.
Not a lawyer or law student? You can still volunteer! We’re looking for Pashto/Dari/Farsi speakers to work as translators. Click here to sign up today!
Policy Meetings
CAIR-LA has organized several meetings with elected officials to amplify the needs of our Afghan clients. We have already met with Senator Alex Padilla, Governor Gavin Newsom, the Secretary of California’s Health & Human Services, and the Directors of California’s Department of Social Services, Department of Health Care Services, and Department of Public Health. We have met with several other members of Congress and will continue these advocacy meetings with and on behalf of our Afghan clients.
If you are interested in meeting with your local elected officials to advocate for the needs of the Afghan community within your district, please sign up here. Space in meetings will be limited and priority will be given to impacted Afghan community members.
