Our final session of Muslim Youth Live! is coming up on Sunday, July 25 at 2:00pmThis upcoming session is titled, Take a Seat at the Table and features Maimona Afzal, educator and member of Franklin-McKinley School Board, and Farrah Khan, Mayor of Irvine, CA.  

Mayor Farrah N. Khan was first elected to the Irvine City Council in 2018 with the highest votes among 12 candidates and is the first woman of color to be elected to the Council. She is a politician, small business owner, and recruitment consultant. Prior to that, Farrah served as a Regulatory Affairs Manager for a biotech company in Emervyville, CA, and as the Executive Director for Newport Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council. 

Maimona Afzal Berta teaches special education in East San Jose. Maimona concurrently serves as Board President of the Franklin-McKinley School District. At the time of her election, she was the youngest elected woman in Santa Clara County and is the first Hijabi (headscarf-wearing) Muslim elected official in the State of California. She is also the co-founder of the Digital Equity Coalition, which engages in digital equity advocacy. 

This program is free and open to the public. These sessions are designed for older youth to young adults but are open to everyone.  We would love for you to participate and share the news of this to your friends and family. Don’t miss out on this youth empowerment series!
