(LOS ANGELES, CA – 8/23/2020) – The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) today condemned an anti-Semitic banner hung from an overpass over the 405 freeway.

The banner, with the phrase “The Jews Want A Race War,” was seen Saturday hanging from an overpass over the southbound lanes of the 405 less than a mile away from the Florence Avenue exit.

Photos posted on social media show another banner publicizing an anti-Semitic website. The site includes a video of supporters standing on the overpass with the signs.

In a statement, CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush said:

“Anti-Semitism, xenophobia and bigotry in any form are unacceptable. We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community and all targeted minorities in condemning the actions of bigots who violate our nation’s long-standing principles of religious tolerance and inclusion.

“The continued trend of normalizing hate speech has emboldened bigots in their speech, as well as their actions. We will continue to stand with marginalized communities against hatred. Hate will not prevail.”

Ayloush urged community members to report any bias incidents to police and to CAIR-LA’s Civil Rights Department at 714-776-1177 or by filing a report at: https://bit.ly/2L9Ezsw.

CAIR-LA is Southern California’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice and empower American Muslims.
