(LOS ANGELES, CA – 10/7/2022) – The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) today condemned the distribution of antisemitic flyers in San Marino and Pasadena, CA, neighborhoods on Yom Kippur.

On Tuesday, the start of Yom Kippur, plastic bags were found in the driveways of residents living in San Marino and Pasadena containing flyers with antisemitic messages, COVID-19 conspiracy theories, and rocks. While local authorities state that the flyers were placed at random, those responsible appeared to target predominantly Jewish communities.

Similar antisemitic incidents occurred last year in Pasadena and Beverly Hills and continue to occur throughout the nation.

In a statement, CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush said:

“We are appalled by this display of antisemitism, which was particularly disturbing on a holy day for the Jewish community.

“There is no place in our society for antisemitism. We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community as they continue to be targeted by hate and discrimination. We look forward to those responsible being apprehended and peace being restored to these neighborhoods.”

As a result of the increase in hate and bullying targeting people of faith as well as those of African, Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI), Black, immigrant, Middle Eastern descent, CAIR-LA recently launched the Center for the Prevention of Hate and Bullying to address these incidents more proactively.

To report any bias incidents, contact CAIR-LA’s Civil Rights Department at (714) 776-1177 or click here to file a report.

CAIR-LA is Southern California’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice and empower American Muslims.
