(LOS ANGELES, CA – 11/23/2022) – The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) today condemned the distribution of antisemitic flyers in Culver City and the Beachwood Canyon area in California this past weekend.

On Sunday, plastic bags containing flyers with antisemitic messages were distributed at homes in Culver City and Beachwood Canyon. Local authorities stated that flyers with similar messages were also distributed to homes on Friday night. Similar incidents in surrounding cities and throughout the nation have been linked to white nationalist groups.

The Los Angeles Police Department is currently investigating this hate incident.

In a statement, CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush said:

“Everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes without fear of receiving racist threats from hate-filled individuals. We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community as they continue to be targeted by hate and discrimination.

“The concerning increase in antisemitic incidents must be addressed. We thank the Los Angeles Police Department for swiftly investigating the matter and look forward to peace being restored to these neighborhoods.”

Last month, in a hearing before the House Committee on Homeland Security, Director of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Project Susan Corke stated:

“This uptick in hate-fueled activity is part of a larger hard-right movement that stokes the fires of antisemitism, promoting racism, fear and extremist violence. Antisemitism, in addition to being a toxic form of prejudice, is also an animating feature of white nationalist ideology and often a leading indicator that a society is more broadly infected and divided by racism.”
