(LOS ANGELES, CA – 7/29/2024) – The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) today condemned vandalism targeting a synagogue in Los Angeles, California.
SEE: LAPD investigating hate crime after Hollywood synagogue vandalized for second time in recent weeks
Security video from over the weekend showed two men allegedly using an unidentified object to break the front windows of the Kahal Ahavas Yisroel synagogue in the Hollywood neighborhood while one of them recorded it on his phone.
This is reportedly the second time the synagogue has been targeted in a matter of weeks. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is currently investigating these incidents as potential hate crimes.
In a statement, CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush said:
“We strongly condemn these apparent acts of bigotry and the vandalism of a place of worship. Antisemitism or hate of any form must not be tolerated in our communities. We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community against this unacceptable act.
“We thank the LAPD for their prompt response in investigating this incident as a hate crime and look forward to justice being served.”
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
