CAIR-LA to Join Coalition March and Rally in Downtown Los Angeles on Saturday for the Closure of Immigrant Detention Camps

(LOS ANGELES, CA, 10/11/2019) – On Saturday, Oct. 12, Indigenous People’s Day, the Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) will join an inter-faith coalition of immigrants’ rights activists and social justice organizations at a rally and march beginning at Grant Park in downtown Los Angeles to protest the U.S. government’s cruel policies towards the immigrant and refugee communities and their children.

The event, themed “Close The Camps” – “My home is also your home,” is part of a National Day of Action to close the immigrant detention camps at our southern border. The action is occurring in 14 cities throughout the country.

The protest is co-sponsored by more than 25 organizations, including the Immigration Justice Committee of Democratic Socialists of America – Los Angeles (DSA), CAIR-LA, National Day Labor Organizing Network, Al Otro Lado, Never Again, United Teachers of Los Angeles (UTLA), Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE), Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice, American Indian Movement-SoCal, and Union De Vecinos.

Protesters will call on L.A. County Sheriff Alexander Villanueva to stop cooperating with ICE, demand state and corporate actors end detaining and profiting from immigrants and call for the government to close the immigrant detention camps at our southern border.
