As Salaamu Alaikum Dear Community Members,

Last week I attended the CAIR-California 13th annual Capitol Ramadan Iftar commemorating Ramadan. The evening drew more than 200 state elected officials, community members, and interfaith leaders to break the fast with one another at the California Capitol.

This year's event was co-hosted by more than 30 assembly members and senators who also co-authored a member resolution, congratulating the American Muslim community on commencing Ramadan and also for its contributions to the fabric of the state of California. State Controller Betty Yee also presented a separate resolution.

The reception included addresses by Assembly Members Kevin McCarty, Jim Cooper, Ken Cooley, and Bill Quirk, along with several other legislators.

The annual iftar is a Ramadan highlight for us at CAIR-CA. It is an opportunity for community leaders and state legislators to come together, break bread, and commemorate the Islamic holy month. We are tremendously appreciative of the elected officials who support us in this endeavor and co-host the iftar year after year, and co-author the Ramadan resolution that tells the one million Muslims of California that we are all part of the social fabric of this state.

he event is part of our larger civic engagement agenda which is a heightened priority this year and in this environment. In recent months we have hosted several candidate events at local masajid, organized dozens of voter registration tables, and most excitingly of all, lead a delegation of over 180 Greater LA Area Muslims to the 5th annual Muslim Day at the Capitol to meet with their legislators.

In the weeks and months ahead we will insha'Allah continue our voter registration efforts, host candidate forums at various local masajid, and publish our 2016 Voter Guide. Now, more than ever before, our community cannot afford to remain silent when candidates and elected officials are asking to hear from us and making decisions that impact our daily lives, and those of our fellow Americans.

Please donate generously.

Jazak Allah khair for your continued support and for making this work possible.

Sincerely,

Haroon Manjlai
