(Anaheim, CA, 7/25/2016) – The California Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on Muslims of California and other people of conscience to contact the Senate Appropriations Committee to oppose the advancement of AB-2844, a bill that would burden political speech in California.

Earlier this year in April, nearly 600 Muslims from all over California advocated against AB-2844 at the fifth annual Muslim Day at the Capitol

In a recent statement, the Stop AB 2844 Coalition, of which CAIR-CA is a member, read “AB 2844 […] has gone through four major rewrites as the authors seek to amend away the unconstitutionality of their core objective from the start: to single out, stigmatize and suppress those who exercise their First Amendment right to carry out nonviolent protests against activities, including boycott and divestment campaigns, to press Israel’s government to end its human rights violations.”
