CAIR-LA Civil Rights Managing Attorney Marwa Rifahie spoke to students at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles during a Know Your Rights seminar at the School of Pharmacy on Thursday, Jan. 31.

The presentation covered rights of travelers, particularly Muslims, in the U.S. and abroad, and how to deal with U.S. Border Patrol agents and law enforcement in America. She also advised students about what they should say if they are forced into exchanges with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

“Saying as little as possible and not lying to any federal agent or law enforcement officer without legal representation is the best prescription,” Rifahie said. “That’s the main purpose why we just don’t want (clients) talking to law enforcement because you could do something innocent and it causes you huge grief in the long run.”
