In a leaked recording posted anonymously on Reddit and obtained by the Los Angeles Times, L.A. City Councilmembers Nury Martinez, Kevin de León, and Gil Cedillo can be heard making racist comments about the Black and indigenous communities.
CAIR-LA strongly condemns the racist language used by L.A. Councilmembers Nury Martinez, Kevin de León, and Gil Cedillo.
There is no room in our community for anti-Black, anti-indigenous or other forms of hate, especially from those in positions of power. Their behavior is unacceptable; we demand that everyone involved is held accountable for this appalling and disgusting dialogue.
CAIR-LA will continue to stand with the Black and indigenous communities to combat racism in our nation.
