(Anaheim, CA – 8/01/16) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations Greater Los Angeles Area office (CAIR-LA) today congratulated Shakeel Syed on his new position as the incoming Executive Director of Orange County Communities Organized for Responsible Development (OCCORD).

Shakeel Syed comes to OCCORD after serving as the Executive Director of the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California for more than a decade, serving over 80 mosques and Islamic organizations in Southern California to foster the spirit and culture of working together.

During his tenure, Syed worked on the Open Mosque Day that has now gone national, implemented the first of its kind Masjid Operations Manual that broke new ground and is now embraced by the regional Shura Councils and much more.

CAIR-LA offers its deepest gratitude and appreciation to Syed for his years of leadership, service and support in promoting CAIR-LA's services to the many Muslim mosques and communities in Southern California through the Islamic Shura Council.

CAIR is the nation's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
