(ANAHEIM, CA, 12/20/16) – The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) today welcomed the resignation of the Huntington Beach planning Commissioner after CAIR-LA and other community organizers demanded his resignation for posting numerous Anti-Islam posts on his personal Facebook account.

Earlier this year, CAIR-LA expressed its concerns about Michael Hoskinson’s comments in a letter to his supervisors.

The letter reads in part, “We find these comments and views repugnant, and believe these actions call Mr. Hoskinson’s ability to perform his official government duties without prejudice and bias into serious question. CAIR-LA is planning on coordinating with our allies from various community organizing and advocacy groups in demanding an apology and resignation from Mr. Hoskinson.”

“While Mr. Hoskinson has the right to his bigoted views, it is unacceptable for a person who holds such views to be in a position of public trust and authority,” said CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush. “The Huntington Beach City officials’ decision to accept Hoskinson’s resignation sends an important and clear message going forward that the City has zero tolerance for bigotry and prejudice that could undermine the trust between the City officials and the diverse constituents that it serves.”  “Moving forward, we urge the City officials to help set a tone for an inclusive and equitable Orange County, for all of her citizens, regardless of skin color or socio-economic status.”

CAIR has recently expressed concerns about anti-Muslim material posted on social media by a number of public officials nationwide.
