What’s Happening
A recent national poll shows that 66% of American voters support a ceasefire in Gaza. Despite this, the majority of elected officials have been reluctant to support a ceasefire in the region and to voice opposition to U.S. military aid to Israel.
As of Jan. 3, 2024, at least 64 members of Congress have called for a ceasefire, with only 17 of them, including California Rep. Barbara Lee, co-sponsoring the Ceasefire Now Resolution (HR 786).

Why a Ceasefire
Israel’s ongoing violence and indiscriminate bombing in Gaza has killed over 23,000 Palestinian civilians, including over 10,000 children, displaced 1.9 million people, destroyed critical infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, bakeries, mosques, and churches, and caused a life-threatening humanitarian crisis.
Human rights organizations and advocates from all over the world have stated that Israel’s cutting off of food, water, fuel, and healthcare amounts to war crimes.
