The California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA) today celebrated the historic appointment of Imam Mohammad “Yasir” Khan as the state’s Assembly chaplain for the 2021-22 session. California Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon made the announcement today.

Khan is the first-ever Muslim chaplain appointed to the California Legislature, and potentially the first Muslim chaplain for any state legislature in the United States.
The Assembly chaplain opens each legislative session with a prayer.
