NBC Bay Area: Palo Alto Interfaith Peace Picnic Continues Tradition of Remembering 9/11

"I remember growing up in a post-9/11 America, and a lot of those wounds and those pains and those traumas are still ever-present in our community."

More than 100 community members and faith leaders gathered in Palo Alto to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks at an annual interfaith peace picnic organized by American Muslim Voice Foundation.

The gathering honored those whose lives were lost or changed by 9/11 while also reflecting on the Islamophobia and discrimination that followed. CAIR-SFBA’s Musa Tariq spoke about growing up in post-9/11 America, noting that “a lot of those wounds and those pains and those traumas are still ever-present in our community.”
