SF Chronicle: Trump adds another controversial Silicon Valley investor to his team

On May 29, the San Francisco Chronicle echoed the concerns of activists and American Muslim leaders of the recent appointment of Sequoia Capital partner Shaun Maguire to the Department of Defense’s Science, Technology and Innovation Board. Maguire has a clear record of racism and anti-Muslim extremism, with over 1,100 tech leaders in 2025 sending a letter to Sequoia Capital for immediate action over his anti-Muslim rhetoric.

“The Hill first reported Maguire’s appointment and the Bay Area chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations quickly condemned it, noting Maguire’s penchant for criticizing people of the Islamic faith, including a Palestinian student activist who Maguire falsely accused of perpetrating a mass shooting at Brown University and British journalist Sami Hamdi, whose immigration arrest at San Francisco Airport in October Maguire celebrated.”
