The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, earlier this week encouraged “American Muslims and American of all faiths and backgrounds” to do whatever they can to aid the victims of the deadly earthquake in Morocco.
CAIR also thanked the Biden administration for offering assistance to the Moroccan government and encouraged the government to do so quickly.
Thousands of people were killed in Friday’s 6.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Morocco’s High Atlas mountain range near Marrakech. More than 2,900 people are already confirmed dead.

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“To God we belong, and to God we return. We pray for those impacted by this tragedy and call on American Muslims and American of all faiths and backgrounds to do whatever they can to offer spiritual and financial support for the relief efforts. We also thank the Biden administration for offering assistance and encourage them to do so as soon as possible.”
He noted that a number of national and international relief agencies are sending aid to the area devastated by the earthquake.
