CAIR-LA Commends Elected Officials Who Denounced Anti-Muslim Hate at Jewish American Summit, Calls for Further Accountability

The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) today commended Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, LA Councilmember Katy Yaroslavsky, and U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) for publicly denouncing the blatant anti-Muslim hate exhibited at the recent Jewish American Summit in Los Angeles. The organization also reiterated its call for the summit’s organizers, sponsors, and participants to denounce the remarks and condemn all forms of anti-Muslim hate.

During the Jewish American Summit’s annual event last month, bigoted remarks made by invited speaker Mosab Hassan Yousef, a former Israeli operative and known anti-Muslim extremist, were met with cheers and applause from the audience.

A video circulating on social media shows Yousef stating in part, “I don’t want Muslims in America. Get the f**k out of the United States. Go back to the s**tholes where you came from and reform your own countries. This country is perfect, and it’s much better without your Islamic belief system.”

The summit featured several other speakers who have a public and lengthy record of expressing hatred of Muslims or Islam, including Dr. Gad Saad, Bill Maher, Ambassador Mike Huckabee, and Dennis Prager.

In a statement, CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush said:

“We commend LA Mayor Bass, LA Supervisor Horvath, LA Councilmember Yaroslavsky, Sen. Schiff, and every elected official who has publicly condemned the blatant and appalling anti-Muslim hatred expressed by Mosab Hassan Yousef and other speakers during the 2026 Jewish American Summit. But accountability requires more than condemning the speakers’ words; to achieve true accountability, we must name the organizations who invited them, the sponsors who supported them, and all who have remained silent since then, and demand they take responsibility for platforming bigotry.

“I urge our elected officials, including those who have already issued statements of condemnation, to explicitly call on the organizers of the Jewish American Summit and its sponsors, including the Anti-Defamation League, the Jewish National Fund, and the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles, to unequivocally denounce all forms of Islamophobia and apologize to the Muslim community for platforming speakers with extreme anti-Muslim viewpoints.”

CAIR-LA reiterated its call for the summit’s participants, organizers, and sponsors, including the Anti-Defamation League, the Jewish National Fund, the Jewish Federation of LA, Margolis, Hawke Media, Impact Forum Foundation, and the Memorial Park, to apologize for platforming known anti-Muslim extremists and denounce Yousef’s remarks and all anti-Muslim hate.

Following the 2026 summit, CAIR designated the Jewish American Summit as an anti-Muslim extremist organization. It also extended the designation to the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC), which recently hosted a separate event platforming speakers with a history of expressing hatred for Muslims, including Representative Randy Fine (R-FL).

CAIR added that, if the organizational sponsors of the Jewish American Summit and the RJC do not publicly denounce the hatred at these events, it may apply the anti-Muslim extremist designation to them as well.

CAIR-LA also welcomed a statement from the Jewish group the Nexus Project condemning Yousef’s statements and calling on the summit’s sponsors to denounce the incident.

CAIR-LA is the Los Angeles office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
