In 2024, CAIR-CA continued to champion civil rights, reunite families, and fight injustice across
California. Our legal team received and responded to over 4,000 cases—tearing down systemic
barriers and delivering life-changing results for those who needed it most.
Key Victories:
- Protecting Asylum Seekers & Reuniting Families – We secured safety and stability for
those fleeing persecution, like the Afghan refugee—a mother of three—who was separated
from her children and placed in a women’s shelter. CAIR-CA fought to reunite her family. - Expanding Citizenship Access – We helped hundreds of immigrants, including elderly
and disabled individuals, navigate the path to citizenship. Among them was a disabled
immigrant who overcame naturalization challenges thanks to our advocacy. - Defending Workers & Survivors – From human trafficking victims to employees facing
discrimination, we safeguarded workplace rights—like the grocery store employee who
faced termination at her job after choosing to wear hijab. - Standing Up for Free Speech & Protest Rights – In an era of growing political repression,
we defended activists and students, including valedictorian Asna Tabassum, who was
targeted for her outspokenness on the genocide in Gaza. - Driving Systemic Change – Beyond individual cases, we pushed for institutional reform. A
landmark victory ensured that a Muslim correctional officer could maintain his beard and
proudly uphold his religious identity at work.
