The voter guide emphasizes the key issues facing the Muslim community, particularly the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the surge in Islamophobia across the state and nation. Since October 7, 2023, American Muslims have been confronting increased discrimination, from hate crimes to targeted harassment, in response to their calls for a ceasefire and an end to U.S. military aid to Israel.
The guide includes a congressional scorecard, a state legislative scorecard, and evaluations of how closely elected officials’ voting records align with CAIR-CA’s priorities on civil rights, social justice, and human dignity.
CAIR-CA also outlines its recommendations on key statewide ballot propositions, such as supporting Proposition 6, which aims to remove involuntary servitude as a punishment for crime. As a nonprofit, CAIR-CA does not endorse candidates but can take positions on ballot measures that align with its mission.
In addition to the voter guide, CAIR-CA’s voter empowerment efforts focus on voter registration drives, candidate forums, and grassroots organizing to ensure California’s Muslim voters are informed and engaged.
In a statement, CAIR-CA CEO Hussam Ayloush said, “At a time when our community is grappling with the devastating impact of the genocide in Gaza and the rise in Islamophobic violence here at home, it is more important than ever for American Muslims to make their voices heard. This voter guide empowers our community to vote for policies that reflect our values of justice, equality, and human dignity.”
