Title: Program Coordinator

 

Location: Sacramento, CA

 

The Position/Role: CAIR Sacramento Valley is looking for a passionate and talented individual to fill the Program Coordinator position. Join one of the most dynamic teams defending civil rights on behalf of the American Muslim community and strengthening the image of Islam and American Muslims.

 

Time Commitment: Full or part time, with periodic evenings and weekends required for presentations and events.

 

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinating CAIR’s flagship programs including Know Your Rights workshops, Muslim Day at the Capitol, Annual Banquet, and the Muslim Youth Leadership Program.
  • Developing strategy and implementation for new youth and community programs throughout the greater Sacramento and Central Valley regions.
  • Working with Islamic centers, MSAs, and other faith communities and communities of color on a variety of social justice issues.
  • Recruiting, managing and engaging interns and volunteers.
  • Supervising interns to support department needs.
  • Providing presence at relevant organizations’ (college campuses, nonprofits, mosques, etc.) events, activities, and meetings.
  • Delivering CAIR-SV public educations programs, interactive workshops, training sessions, and forums.
  • Other duties as assigned.

All CAIR staff are required to assist in general duties such as answering phones, weekly outreach, fundraising, and other office tasks.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Highly motivated, self-initiating and energetic
  • Experience with public speaking.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and managerial skills to interface with media professionals, community leaders, volunteers, donors, and staff in a professional and effective manner.
  • Experience with and proficiency in public speaking before diverse audiences.
  • Must have capability to work on multiple projects or tasks at a time.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Access to a working vehicle and the ability to drive throughout the greater Sacramento and Central Valley regions for events and outreach.
  • A strong commitment to civil rights and CAIR’s mission.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience working with non-profit organizations and American-Muslim community desired.
  • Conversational proficiency in Arabic, Farsi or Urdu (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Constant Contact/MailChimp and Word Press

This position reports to the Executive Director.

Compensation:

  • Compensation commensurate with skills and experience

Title: Immigrants' Rights Attorney 

Areas of Focus: Immigration and Nationality Law

Location: Sacramento, CA

The Position/Role: CAIR Sacramento Valley is looking for a passionate and talented individual to fill the nearly created Immigrants’ Rights Attorney. Join one of the most dynamic teams serving the American Muslim community. This position aims to provide culturally competent immigration legal services to members of the greater Sacramento Valley Muslim community.

Time Commitment: Full-time with occasional evenings and weekends required.

Key Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Conduct client intake, prepare applications and petitions for submission to the appropriate agency
  • Represent clients before the USCIS and EOIR
  • Manage caseload and supervise related casework
  • Oversee efforts to strengthen program policies and procedures
  • Oversee work of volunteers, including law students and pro bono attorneys
  • Participate in community outreach and educational activities, including planning and conducting legal clinics
  • Working in, leading, or forming coalitions with other organizations and collaborating with immigrant communities
  • Plan and conduct asylum and naturalization clinics
  • Research and analyze law sources such as statutes, legal articles, and legal codes
  • Prepare legal documents such as memos, motions, and appeals
  • Assess clients for other civil legal service and immigration-related needs and provide inhouse referrals
  • Assist other staff in the production of internal and external reports
  • Write and secure grants from foundations and corporations to support immigrants’ rights work
  • Market immigration services
  • All CAIR staff are required to assist in general duties such as answering phones, weekly outreach, fundraising, and other office tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Law degree from an American Bar Association accredited school
  • California State Bar admission
  • 1-3 years of immigration law experience, specifically in areas of asylum, removal, and naturalization
  • Strong time management skills with a demonstrated ability for meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with outstanding attention to detail
  • Comfort working productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including public speaking experience
  • Experience working with people from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Access to a working vehicle and the ability to drive throughout the greater Sacramento Valley
  • High degree of self-motivation and creativity
  • A strong commitment to civil rights and CAIR’s mission
  • Basic computer proficiency including knowledge of MS Office, MS Outlook, and WestLaw Next
  • Knowledge of cloud applications such as SharePoint, Office365, and social media applications

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Arabic, Farsi, or Urdu proficiency
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations

CAIR Central California Outreach Coordinator (Full or Part Time)

CAIR California is looking for a passionate and talented individual to fill the newly created Outreach Coordinator position for the Central California region. Join one of the most dynamic teams defending civil rights on behalf of the American Muslim community, promoting civic engagement, and building coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

Key Roles and Responsibilities 

This position entails coordinating CAIR-CA's work in Fresno and Central Valley area. Tasks include community relations & organizing, media & political advocacy, delivering programs, fundraising, and general administrative duties.

Outreach Coordinator will be based in Central California and will serve as a liaison between the local community and CAIR. Responsibilities include:

  • Work with Islamic centers, MSAs, and other faith communities and communities of color on a variety of social justice issues
  • Recruit and establish relationships with volunteers and community activists
  • Provide presence at relevant organizations’ (college campuses, nonprofits, mosques, etc.) events, activities, and meetings
  • Establish and maintain community support for CAIR Central California.
  • Deliver CAIR-CA programs, interactive workshops, training sessions, and forums
  • Manage recruitment and coordination of participants to CAIR-CA programs.
  • Community organizing and advocacy
  • Manage fundraising campaigns

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • 2-3 years of experience working with clients, customers, etc.
  • Highly motivated, self-initiating and energetic.
  • Experience working with the American Muslim community.
  • Must have capability to work on multiple projects or tasks at a time.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and managerial skills to interface with staff, community leaders, volunteers, and donors in a professional and effective manner.
