(SACRAMENTO, CA, 01/08/19) — The Sacramento Valley office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SV) issued a statement after President Donald Trump‘s address about the border wall on Tuesday night.
CAIR-SV Civil Rights Attorney Saad Sweilem said:
“From the Muslim Ban to the inhumane and cruel practices at our borders, we have seen this administration work endlessly to undermine immigrants’ rights and vilify migrants and asylum-seekers. Now Donald Trump is holding our country hostage over the construction of a wasteful wall and spreading falsehoods that will lead to the deaths of more children and more families being separated. The Trump administration will stop at nothing to fulfill its xenophobic agenda. In the face of the administration’s stunts, we will continue to say, ‘No Ban, No Wall.'”
Sweilem will be available to speak to the media until 7 p.m.
Last month, Sweilem represented the family of the late Abdullah Hassan, 2, whose mother, Shaima Swileh, was kept from him as he was dying due to the Muslim Ban. In a bittersweet victory, Sweilem, along with Nimer Law, LLC, was able to obtain a Muslim Ban visa waiver for Swileh so that she could be reunited with her son and her husband, Ali Hassan, before Abdullah passed away. Abdullah died Dec. 28, 2018, and was laid to rest the following day.
