(SACRAMENTO, CA, 10/09/18) – The Sacramento Valley office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SV) today condemned anti-Semitic flyers found on campus at the University of California, Davis – about a week after racist graffiti was found at another Sacramento-area college.

Images of the flyers were posted to various social media platforms Monday.

The flyers’ abhorrent anti-Semitic message was: “Every time some anti-white, anti-American, anti-freedom event takes place, you look at it and it’s Jews behind it.”

The flyers were attributed to the Daily Stormer, a neo-Nazi website.

In a statement, CAIR-SV’s Executive Director Basim Elkarra said:

“We condemn these back-to-back racist incidents on Sacramento-area college campuses. This hate has no place at our institutions of learning. Racists are apparently feeling emboldened in the era of Donald Trump. There has been a shocking 17.4 percent spike in California hate crimes from 2016 to 2017, as we have seen firsthand through our work with California Muslims and other marginalized groups. We will continue to stand up and defend our fellow community members in the face of bigotry.”

UC Davis Chancellor Gary May released a statement on Monday.

The racist incident on a university campus comes about a week after graffiti was found in a men’s restroom at Sacramento City College containing anti-black slurs and anti-Semitic imagery – and a threat of violence.

“Kill them all” was written on a mirror, along with “#MAGA” and “Stop the Democrats.”

Elkarra said CAIR and the American Muslim community have in the past expressed solidarity with Jewish, Christian, Native American, African-American and Sikh communities nationwide following acts of hate, threats, violence, vandalism, arson or bombings.

CAIR California (CAIR-CA) found that there was a marked rise in anti-Muslim bias incidents in California in 2017, as detailed in its Civil Rights Report. CAIR-CA recorded an 8 percent increase in anti-Muslim bias incidents in 2017 compared to 2016.

Elkarra urged community members to report any bias incidents to police and to CAIR-SV’s Civil Rights Department at 916-441-6269 or by filing a report at http://bit.ly/cairsvreport.

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
