(SACRAMENTO, CA, 7/10/20) – The Sacramento Valley office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SV) today condemned threatening, racist messages that were written on a North Highlands church and expressed solidarity with the Christian community.
Sometime over the past few weeks, a vandal or vandals climbed onto the roof of Murph-Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church and wrote messages including “Kill um’ all,” racial slurs and “KKK.”
The incident is being investigated by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department as a hate crime.
In a statement, CAIR-SV Executive Director Basim Elkarra said:
“We condemn this disturbing and threatening act of vandalism and express solidarity with the local Christian community. Houses of worship are sacred spaces, and they must also be safe spaces. Everyone should be free to practice their religion in peace and without fear. We encourage any witnesses to come forward with information about this act of hate against a house of worship.”
