The Sacramento Valley / Central California office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SV/CC) today called on local, state, and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate an apparent vandalism of the Japanese-American Presbyterian Church in Sacramento, as a hate crime.
Just yesterday, a suspect broke into one of the oldest Japanese-American churches in Sacramento and smashed a sign but did not take anything.

In a statement, CAIR-SV/CC Executive Director Basim Elkarra said:
“We express our solidarity with and support for the Japanese American community in the wake of this desecration of a place of worship. An attack on any house of worship is an attack on all our houses of worship, and we urge the SPD to investigate this incident as a hate crime.”
He said the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
