(SACRAMENTO, 6/30/18) — On Saturday, June 30, 2018, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Sacramento Valley chapter (CAIR-SV), joined a massive Families Belong Together & Free rally at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services building in Sacramento, 650 Capitol Mall.

Protesters stood in solidarity to tell the Trump administration to end family separation, end family detention and reunite children with their parents now, along with rallying against the Muslim Ban.

On Tuesday, June 26, 2018, the Supreme Court upheld Trump’s Muslim Ban.

Sacramento-area residents turned out Saturday with signs and plenty of passion at the event, which featured speeches by the leaders of local organizations, including CAIR-SV Executive Director Basim Elkarra.

“Just yesterday, I was here in this building to try to visit a detainee. It’s heart-wrenching,” said Elkarra at the rally. “America, we are better than this.

“We tell the youth to stand strong and proud. We’re going to fight for you. Be proud of who you are,” Elkarra continued. “This is a fight for human dignity and all of us together, we will win.”
