Ramadan Kareem to you and your loved ones. May your fasting, good deeds, and generosity be accepted.
Ramadan allows us to restore our faith and come closer to our Creator. It is also a time to renew our commitment to the values of justice and community that our faith teaches. During this blessed month, we kindly ask you for your generous support by contributing your zakat and sadaqa donations to help CAIR-SC/CC
Your zakat or sadaqa gift of $100, $250, $500, $1,000, $5,000 or any amount you can give will safeguard the liberties of Muslims and other Americans.
CAIR Sacramento Valley/Central California is committed to empowering American Muslims across Central California. As our region covers so much of California, we need your help to continue serving the community and doing incredible work. In 2024, we are motivated to expand our reach in Central California to ensure ALL have a voice within our region. We can’t do it without you.
What are we doing at CAIR-SV/CC? Take a look at a small sample of our work from last year:
Civil Rights
- Hosted 10 “Know Your Rights” presentations on various topics and in multiple languages, including being approached by the FBI, school bullying, and your rights while traveling.
- Intervened on behalf of newly arrived Afghan community members who need safe living places and access to community resources. We prevented landlords from evicting families and facilitated communication between Resettlement Agencies.
- We represented a community member in his fight to for religious accommodations from his employer to attend Jummah prayer. After a year of struggle, he was granted his accommodation to attend services every Friday without penalty from his employer!
Immigration Services
- Received over 450 intakes to provide free legal services to the Muslim community!
- Informational sessions were held throughout the SV/CC region to share about the asylum process with over 90 newly arrived Afghans.
- CAIR-SV/CC was a founding organization for SCALE (Sacramento Coalition of Afghan Legal Services) which provides monthly free asylum clinics. We assisted over 200 Afghan nationals through these clinics combined with the resources of our partner organizations.
Programs & Organizing
- Partnered with MSA West at the Servant Leadership Summit to provide trainings on organizing and social justice work for college and university students.
- Invited youth to artistically express the impact of COVID-19 on our communities through various art mediums including spoken word, painting, photography, sculpture, and more.
- 10 Bystander Intervention Trainings were held where participants learned hands-on skills about how to de-escalate a hate incident before it leads to violence, how to create a safe space, and how to support the person being targeted.
- We provided intervention after bullying and targeted aggression at schools with many new immigrant families.
Advocacy
- Met with 79 elected officials, organized 50 events, and spearheaded over 50 campaigns to advocate on issues across the political spectrum affecting the Muslim community.
- Conducted voter registration, education, and mobilization to increase engagement in the 2024 primary elections.
- Introduced four American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month city resolutions to recognize the incredible impact of local Muslim communities. CAIR-CA again led the resolution that celebrates August as American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month. The resolution recognizes the diverse American Muslim Population and highlights Muslim American contributions to the state of California.
- Coordinated with a Sacramento immigration network to support a resolution passed by the City of Sacramento calling on Congress to pass the Afghan Adjustment Act. The Afghan Adjustment Act will help over 76,000 Afghan evacuees get permanent residency status and access to services based on their needs!
You help make CAIR-SV/CC’s successes possible. With Allah’s will and your generous support, we will continue to grow in our efforts to protect and empower Muslims and all Americans.
