(SACRAMENTO, CA, 4/24/15) — On Monday, April 27, hundreds of California Muslims will meet with their state lawmakers in Sacramento as part of the fourth annual Muslim Day at the Capitol (MDAC) organized by that state's chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA), the nation's leading Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization.

The attendees will urge elected officials to support three legislative items:
1. SB 178, a bill which will provide protection against warrant-less government access to electronic communication.
2. SB 358 aims to place provisions to implement equal wages to employees, in-discriminant of sex.
3. AB 42 would require California Community Colleges, CSUs, and the UCs, to freeze tuition and fees.

"Protecting access to an affordable education, equal wages and the right to privacy is essential to a thriving community," said CAIR-CA Chair Safaa Ibrahim. "This event will provide an opportunity for Muslims from across California to impact state politics by urging lawmakers to support issues that affect all of us."
At previous MDAC events, participants have advocated for the Workplace Religious Freedom Act (AB 1964), the TRUST Act (AB 4), the California Bill of Rights for Domestic Workers (AB 241), and the Fourth Amendment Protection Act (SB 828) — all of which were signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown.
