CAIR-San Diego Public Safety Expo a Huge Success

 

(SAN DIEGO, CA, 10/17/14) – Last week, the San Diego chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-San Diego), in cooperation with the Muslim Community Center of Greater San Diego (MCC), held a “Public Safety Expo” at an event marking the end of the pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj).

The program included, food, safety workshops, lectures and attractions for the kids.  The expo was scheduled on the last day of the California Fire Prevention Week.  Both fire and police departments were onsite providing public safety guides and strengthening their relationship with the community.  The aim of this program was to bring the Muslim Community and Law enforcement together, provide safety guides, and strengthen the community relations with the law enforcement.

The event attracted about 300 community members, the expo as well as the Eid celebration was very well received by our community.   

“It is important that our community be part of the law enforcement, we want to inspire our young people to be the future fire fighters and peace officers,” said the Executive Director of CAIR-San Diego, Hanif Mohebi.  “We want the community to feel comfortable enough to report any incidents or threats to the police department and our organization.”

The expo, which included interactions between members of the Muslim community and public safety officials, come in the wake of a threatening letter with an unknown substance sent to a local Mosque.  The event also was covered by local media.
