Unforgettable, I was driving on a highway in my small pickup truck; the radio was interrupted with the horrifying news of 9/11. This shocking news was so powerful that I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing. I immediately took an exit from the highway. I now realize that exit changed my life forever, as it rerouted my studies from pre-med majoring in biology to philosophy and communication studies. That exit led me to community involvement, civic engagement and finally to dedicating my life to defending our freedom and the Constitution. – Hanif Mohebi, executive director of San Diego chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization.
