A few weeks ago we got a call from a concerned parent in Imperial County that a high school teacher was teaching false and offensive information about Muslims and Islam in his class. When the Principal and the school board turned a blind eye to the matter after we contacted them, we took the matter up to the County School Board of Education. We took several concerned parents in that disctrict and demanded the board to address the issue at their board meeting.
Working through with the board, they actually invited us to provide training materials for their teachers that reflect the proper understanding of Muslims and Islam in America. In fact, we are using this as a pilot project to show other school boards around the county how such training can be effective in making sure their teachersand staff promote a safe, vibrant and educational environment for all their students, and where Muslim students do not feel threatened and can thrive. We are in active discussion with school boards in two other districts to implement such a program.
To scale the program, we need your help. Training materials, which include printed reports, workbooks and videos, cost money and we need your to help us get thesetraining materials to over 12,000 teachers around San Diego and Imperial Counties. In addition, your contribution will help us hire the right personnel to deliver the training. If you are a parent of a student in the public schools, you can help by contacting the school principal and arranging a meeting with us.
It's extremely important for us to proactively work to ensure our kids feel safe at school from other students and teachers so they can be at their best. It is the best way to counter the rising bigotry and anti-Islamic rhetoric that is commonly spreading.
Help us teach the teachers. Be part of this continuous charity. Give now.
