October 4, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Join us for  “National Security and Civil Rights: From the Japanese American Incarceration to the Muslim Ban” on Thursday, October 4 from 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM at UC Berkeley. Hear from CAIR-SFBA’s own Zahra Billoo at this event.

The purpose of the event is to engage our students in a deeper understanding of the relationship between such historical events as the 1882 Exclusion Act, the incarceration of Japanese Americans, etc. and the violent policies and practices being adopted by our current administration under the guise of “national security” against communities of color. We also hope through this event, which is being planned as part of a series of events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the inception of our program, that our campus community will begin to better understand the relevance of our research and teaching efforts as a discipline moving forward, particularly given the current political climate.
