Fahria Khan is an Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate and passionate education activist who believes in creating opportunities for all students to shine. She has deep roots in the Fremont community and has been serving and volunteering in Fremont for the last 18 years.
She has held many leadership positions, including President of the FEF, Commissioner on both the Alameda County Human Relations Commission and Commission on the Status of Women, and Development Officer for the Fremont American Association of University Women. In 2010, she was part of a small group of concerned parents who spearheaded the successful “Save Fremont Students” campaign. This grassroots effort raised over $600,000 in three short months to offset budget cuts in science, physical education, and music programs. She has organized numerous events, banquets, activities, and initiatives as a parent volunteer in the capacity of PTO President, Board Member, Administrator, Girl Scout Troop Leader, and many other leadership roles. As President of FEF, she has managed multiple school-district-wide initiatives and programs and most recently spearheaded a STEM/Maker Education project at all 28 elementary schools, which included getting both school district and community buy in, acquiring funding, collaborating with other local non-profits, communicating with all 28 school sites, and overall project management.
She is particularly effective in assessing and resolving organizational conflicts, managing multiple projects simultaneously, bringing the community together to pursue a common cause, and finding creative solutions given limited resources and budget. In addition to the work she does with schools, she bakes birthday cakes for foster children with Cake4Kids and also volunteers a significant portion of her time to various other local non-profits. Fahria is married with five children and loves chocolate, spending time with her family and friends, and baking.
