State & Local Elected Officials Recognize American Muslims with Proclamations; Assemblymember Bill Quirk to Present HR 48

On August 12, the California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA) will join California State Assembly at the state capitol to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the passage of House Resolution 59, which proclaimed August “American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month” in California.

To further recognize the endless contributions of American Muslims, Assemblymember Bill Quirk will present House Resolution 48 (HR 48), which commends Muslim communities in California for the lasting positive impact they have made toward the advancement of the state and the nation.

WHAT: Community events with local elected officials to celebrate the fourth anniversary “American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month” during which proclamations will be presented.

  • Event 1: Monday, August 12, 11:30am, State Capitol, Sacramento
    • 11:30am — Reception in Room 317
    • 1pm — The Assembly will debate HR 48 during session
  • Event 2: Monday, August 12, 4pm, Santa Clara County, 70 West Hedding St., San Jose

These are the first celebrations in a series of seven events, which come at a time of increased anti-Muslim rhetoric sweeping the nation, and perpetuated by Trump’s administration.
