On Monday, May 24, the California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA) will host its 10th Annual Muslim Day at the Capitol (MDAC) virtually, with more than 200 participants expected to attend.
CAIR-CA will also be holding a political education webinar highlighting the program’s legislative priorities.

At MDAC, American Muslims from across California will have an opportunity to meet state legislators and their staff to discuss issues of concern and advocate for positive social change. This year, MDAC attendees will be advocating to address the needs of asylum seekers, protect protestors, and establish the first-ever Statewide Human Rights Commission.
The MDAC legislative agenda includes AB 412 authored by Assemblymember Reyes, AB 48 authored by Assemblymember Gonzalez, and AB 1368 authored by Assemblymember Calderon. CAIR California is co-sponsoring AB 412 to create the California Commission on Human Rights, an advisory commission to oversee and report on the status of human rights across California and where issues or concerns of human rights violations are occurring, the Commission would provide recommendations and solutions to the Legislature and necessary departments to mitigate those human rights abuses.
