The theme has been the focus point of several sessions attended by Muslim role models who are elevating Muslim American culture in the new millennium.
The theme was also seen as a call to action on developing and implementing solutions that will benefit the Muslim American community, as well as society at large.
Also dominating the discussions are the ideas, opportunities, and challenges shaping the future of Islam in America and beyond.
Speakers included Zahra Billoo, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations San Francisco office, Mehdi Hasan, British political journalist, broadcaster and author, Maryam Amirebrahimi, educator and advocate, and Mansoor Sabree, resident Imam of Atlanta and Director of Mohammed Schools of Atlanta.
Asked about her perspective on failure, Billoo said, “Failures aren’t failures. They’re tests from Allah, or opportunities.”
“It’s also important to surround yourself with the right people. This is how you address the problems we are facing. Those opportunities can be disastrous when faced in the presence of the wrong people,” she said.
