Since Oct. 7, over 15,000 Palestinian civilians have been killed by Israel’s ongoing attacks in Gaza. The only way to permanently stop these cycles of violence is to implement a permanent ceasefire and end the Israeli government’s illegal occupation of Palestine.
CAIR-SFBA stands with the people of Palestine as they continue to fight for their rights, dignity, and freedom.

CAIR-SFBA and the County of Santa Clara today ann CAIR-SFBA and the County of Santa Clara today announced that the County reached a $90,000 settlement with Asia Aden.    In Oct. 2022, Aden, a Muslim woman, was booked into a county jail facility. As part of the booking process, Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office staff asked Aden to remove her hijab to conduct a pat search for safety purposes. The hijab was removed and returned when she was released from custody a few days later.   The Sheriff’s Office and CAIR-SFBA are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate on implementing a religious services policy that provides clear guidance to staff who are presented with the task of harmonizing important safety objectives, like the need to conduct a pat search or resolving potential mental health concerns, with an individual’s right to religious expression. The policy has already been implemented and staff have received training.   Under the new policy, Aden would have been offered a pat search in private or outside the presence of men, as well as the opportunity to take a booking photograph wearing her hijab. Unless there were specific safety and security concerns, the new policy would have also allowed Aden to keep her hijab or receive a jail-issued religious covering during her custody stay.   CAIR-SFBA Senior Civil Rights Attorney Jeffrey Wang stated, “We welcome the settlement as a step towards justice for Ms. Aden. We urge more municipalities to follow Santa Clara County’s example by reviewing and implementing policies to ensure everyone’s constitutional rights are protected, regardless of faith.”
“I am deeply concerned for my daughter’s safet “I am deeply concerned for my daughter’s safety. She was violently attacked and the school and district have failed to take action to protect her. They need to move quickly to hold her attackers accountable, protect her, and make clear to our community that Islamophobia will not be tolerated.”
CAIR-SFBA condemns the brazen Islamophobic attack CAIR-SFBA condemns the brazen Islamophobic attack on a young Muslim girl by fellow students. CAIR-SFBA Sr. Civil Rights Attorney Jeffrey Wang stated, "San Francisco Unified School District’s Board Policy clearly states that no student should be subjected to harassment, threats or hate-motivated behavior. "CAIR-SFBA is concerned that no visible corrective action has been taken against the attackers, leaving the victim afraid of returning to school. We are deeply troubled by the lack of assurances that these events will be thoroughly investigated and that necessary safety measures will be implemented to protect the victim and other Muslim students from further harm.” CAIR-SFBA Executive Director Zahra Billoo added, "This incident is not isolated. It reflects a broader pattern of Islamophobia and harassment that Muslim students face in schools. It is imperative that the school district takes immediate and decisive action to address this hate-motivated crime." Read more ➡️ bit.ly/cairsfbacondemnsattack
