• What is Muslim Day at the Capitol (MDAC)?

Muslim Day at the Capitol (MDAC) is an all-day event where American Muslims have the chance to meet with legislators and advocate on issues impacting the community. The event is the perfect platform to voice your concerns to your lawmakers, learn advocacy skills, and represent the American Muslim community. This year, MDAC is taking place on Monday, April 25th.

  • Where is it taking place?

Our State Capitol in Sacramento. Registration, meals, prayers, and guest speakers’ addresses will take place on the West Lawn of the Capitol. The legislative meetings will happen inside the Capitol building.

  • Why is it on a weekday?

Our lawmakers are only in session in Sacramento on weekdays.

  • How will I get there?

We are providing round-trip transportation via buses from the Bay Area. Pickups are currently scheduled from: Santa Clara (CAIR-SFBA), Fremont (ISEB), the Peninsula (Yaseen Foundation), West Oakland (7th Street BART Station), Concord (Islamic Center of Contra Costa), and Pleasanton (MCC East Bay). The cost of transportation is $10. You may also opt to arrive independently in your own vehicle and meet us at the Capitol at 8:00 AM.

  • How much does it cost?

Just $25 for adults and $20 for students and children. We ask for this small amount in order to defray the costs of training, materials, meals, and transportation.
If you are unable to afford this amount and would like to request a fee waiver, please contact us.

  • Who exactly will I be meeting?

You will be meeting with elected officials and members of their staff.

  • What legislation will we be discussing?

MDAC participants will be advocating for legislation on issues of privacy, equal pay, and college affordability. The detailed legislative agenda will be available on our website soon.

  • Is there anything I can do to prepare?

When you register, you will have an opportunity to access fact sheets that explain our legislative agenda and talking points for your meetings. Additionally, we will be hosting three webinars before the event date to give you a better sense of what to expect when lobbying and to prepare for your meetings. Both the fact sheets and webinar trainings are great tools to ensure you are ready for the day!

  • What should I wear?

A business suit or slacks/skirt and a jacket are appropriate. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Jeans are not acceptable attire.

  • Is this event for adults only?

Attendees of all ages are welcome to attend. In fact, youth and students often have an important impact on legislators, and their opinion matters even if they can’t vote yet. We have many student attendees each year and they can choose to participate in meetings or a Capitol tour.

  • How do I register?

Register directly at caircapitolday.com. For groups larger than five participants, please contact CAIR-SFBA Programs & Development Manager Lucy Porras at lporras@cair.com.
