The Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County and our Social Justice Alliance believe that all sovereign nations must stand for human rights and equal treatment of all people with human dignity and respect for their cultural and religious traditions. As a matter of immediate urgency, the ICCCC and SOJA remain anxious about Israel’s proposed unilateral measures against the Palestinians to annex large portions of the occupied West Bank beginning July 1st that would result in a further deterioration in relations between the Israelis and the Palestinians as well as a general increase in tension and violence in the Holy Land.

The Council hereby pleads with the U.S. Government and other involved parties to put forth a joint effort for the implementation of all relevant United Nations resolutions and the achievement of a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority to ensure the right of the Palestinian People to self-determination and the human rights of all peoples in the Holy Land. Such an agreement will contribute significantly to peace and security throughout the Middle East and the entire world.
