Assalamu Alaykum,
As Ramadan begins, I’m thinking about what this month asks of us, not just spiritually, but as a community. Ramadan is a month of mercy, but it is also a month of action.And right now, our community needs both.
The Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم taught us
“Whoever relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, Allah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Resurrection… Allah helps the servant as long as he helps his brother.”
Over the past year, and even in just the past few weeks, we saw how quickly harm can escalate: discrimination in schools and workplaces, rising Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian hate, and growing fear in immigrant communities as government overreach intensified. In moments like these, the question isn’t whether our community cares. It’s whether someone can respond quickly, act strategically, and follow through until there’s real resolution.
